This is the amazing journey of our two miracles. John Craig was born on November 30, 2005 at 24 weeks and 5 days gestation. He weighed 1 pound 8 ounces and was 12 inches long. John is a true miracle and an inspiration to all that meet him! Hope Amanda, our perfect little girl, is currently recovering from two brain surgeries to remove a 6cm mass from the center of her brain. Hope represents everything good in this world and she too is an inspiration to all.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.

I Love My Boys!

Daddy has the weekend off (finally) and we are enjoying our time together. We had a lazy day yesterday and this afternoon we are heading over to the Maes' for dinner and to let the boys play. We don't have any big plans for Labor Day.....but, I am sure we'll find something fun to do.

John giving Daddy kisses.....our favorite thing in the world!

Fountain Fun!

Today John and I went up to Kierland to play in the fountains with Shannon and Emma. The kids loved it. They giggled and squealed every time they got wet.....which was quite often.

For some reason, John decided he needed to lay down and rest.

Playing is hard work you know!!!

I'm Back!

I am back from a fabulous girls weekend in California......and the boys managed without me just fine!!!!!

Not too much to report except....
  • John will hopefully (if they have room) start Hippotherapy at the end of October.....they don't have an indoor stable so we have to wait for it to cool down.
  • His next Botox injections are in December but the Dr. has the medicine on hand if we feel he needs it sooner.
  • He'll start his 3rd session of Music on September 17th.....we are super excited because Shannon & Emma and Corrie & Ciera are joining us this time.

I love this picture......this beanie angel (from Grams) has been by his side since day 1.

Tidbits

This is going to be short and sweet...

*Sunday night John fell head first into the bathtub! He had just gotten out of the bath, had his clean PJ's on and I was putting toothpaste on his tooth brush. The tub was draining when I looked over to see John reaching for his toys.....all of a sudden his tiny legs flew up in the air and there he went, right into the tub. Fast forward 2 minutes.....he now has another clean (and dry) pair of PJ's on.....I begin to quickly brush his teeth (he hates it) and accidentally stick the toothbrush in too far and I gag him......yep, he vomits! Fast forward another 2 minutes.....and he now has his third pair of PJ's on and is finally ready to go to bed:)

*Every night before bed John and I read a story and then say our prayers. As soon as the story is over he sits up, puts his hands together and waits for me to say our prayers. After we say Amen he blows kisses to God and we say Good Night.....sooooooooooooo stinkin cute!!!!

*We had our transition to preschool meeting yesterday and it looks like our little man will be starting school in January......yikes! I am sure I will have made every excuse known to man not to start him then.....but, that's the plan as of now. I know he will really benefit from it but I am not so sure Mommy or Daddy will be able to handle it.

*Mommy is off to California in the morning for a fun filled weekend with her BFF's! I am sure Daddy and John will have just as much fun but I will miss them terribly.

Catching Up!

The big man is feeling good and doing a lot of catching up on his sleep....since he hasn't had much in the last week.

It wasn't much fun (for anyone) having a sick little boy...but honestly, it felt great not having to go to one single appointment or therapy session (we have 6 EVERY week.) It was a nice treat to have a break but it's back to business come Monday.....plus, we have his transition to preschool meeting on Wednesday...yikes!

We've Got A Lefty!

John has always favored his left hand a little bit. He still uses both (which I just learned from one of his Dr.'s is really good at his age because it means both sides of his brain are working) but tonight while coloring his 189th picture of the day I noticed him using his left hand a lot more.
Here's my little lefty...who is feeling much better by the way and even drank some water today (a good sign that his throat isn't as sore.)

Deja vu!

The past two Sunday's have looked frighteningly similar. Yep, you guessed it...another yucky bug invaded our home. Seriously, what are the odds that my healthy, never sick, little boy would come down with 2 completely different virus' (and an ambulance ride to the ER) in a one week span? This time I did take him to the pediatrician in fear he had an ear infection. Ears and lungs checked out fine but his throat was full of blisters and he had another fever to top it off.
So, I have had a legitimate reason for abandoning my poor little blog for the past week. No worries though.....the unwelcome visitor is on his way out (we hope) and all will be back to normal in the Birtch home (once we all get some sleep!)

Dorthy and Wags always make things better!

Still looking cool....even when feeling cruddy.

We LOVE Motrin...

...and Tylenol!

Oy vey!

There is just too much excitement going on in our house...please make it stop!

Long story short.....John and I took an ambulance ride down to Phoenix Children's this morning (Daddy followed in the car.) His button had fallen out and we could not get a new one back in....it was oozing blood and he was screaming in pain. I knew the firemen would not be able to do it so as soon as they arrived we had them call for an ambulance because we needed to get to PCH ASAP! We had a limited amount of time before the hole closed up. Luckily, we brought an extra button with us because....the ER only carried Mic-Key buttons and we use the Nutriport. Anyhow, after waiting for what seemed like forever the Dr. finally put the new button in.....the poor little guy cried his eyes out:(

But on a happier note....he is feeling 100% better and that nasty virus is a thing of the past. Thanks for all the well wishes!!!

I'll leave you with some cute pictures of the main man (they are from our vacation...off Grandpa's camera.)

Chillin on Aunt Alli and Uncle Craig's porch.

What Did Your Weekend Look Like?

Ours looked like this...
Friday night we took a family trip to the mall. John needed some new shoes (to fit his new AFO's) so, we headed straight to Stride Rite's. Lucky us, they were having a sale...buy one get the 2nd half off! John walked away with 2 new pairs of shoes.....and Daddy, an empty wallet. I still cannot believe John's little shoes are more expensive than mine...geeeezzzz!

After the mall we stopped for a quick dinner. Waffle fries are John's FAVORITE.....so off to Chick-fil-A we went......healthy dinner I know. John is so sweet and saved some fries to share with Arnold when we got home!

Now, don't let this fool you....yes, our weekend was off to a great start but at 10:00pm Friday night things started going down hill and the rest of our weekend looked like this...

Our poor little baby was sick as a dog. In fact, this was the sickest he has ever been (minus his 4 month NICU stay.) The poor little guy had a raging fever (104 degrees) the entire weekend. He could not sleep and was just plain miserable. We alternated between Motrin and Tylenol ever 4 hours and took LOTS of cold baths. Luckily, we were able to keep him hydrated (via G-tube) and avoided a hospital stay.

He is feeling a little better today....still a low grade fever but it looks like he's on the mend. Now, if we can all get some much needed sleep we should be good to go.

Who Would Have Thought....

...that a frozen green bean would be sooooooooooooo much fun? Seriously, why do we spend so much money on toys when it's the simplest things that our kids find so amusing.

I have been really bad at updating lately......still trying to get back into the swing of things since coming home from vacation. Terrible excuse, I know!!!!!

Anyhow...

  • John's new AFO's came in, in record time...5 days!!! They look huge compared to his old ones (which they are) but they give me much more stability.
  • He is still eating a very small amount....we'll take whatever we can get though!
  • His summer music class is coming to an end but we'll most definitely be signing up for fall classes. Boy does he LOVE this class.
  • I am looking into putting him in hippotherapy (horseback riding) in the fall also. If anyone knows of a good place here in AZ please let me know.

I think that's it for now.....off to music class we go!!!!
